— Leeds United (@LUFC) January 11, 2021Amad Diallo would be handed his Champions League debut last night, leaving fans feeling massively impressed.
On transfer deadline day, a Manchester United move for Amad Diallo Traore was amongst the surprise deals made. The tricky winger wouldn’t gain a work permit in time to move to Manchester immediately. Instead, he’d stay with Atalanta until January.
After coming on to make his first Serie A appearance of the season at the weekend, Amad Diallo would be given the opportunity to make a full Champions League debut last night.
It’d come as Atalanta drew 1-1 with FC Midtjylland, with Amad Diallo making his appearance in the 68th minute. From the get-go, the tricky winger was causing all sorts of problems with his pace, trickery and directness.
He actually could have had a goal or two during the magnificent cameo but it just wasn’t to be last night. However, the early signs certainly look promising.
This is a young man who, given time to adapt and adjust to the English game, has massive potential to become a mainstay within that first-team squad.
After watching him last night, I’m definitely excited about seeing how he gets on upon linking up with his new United teammates in the mid-season window. Sure, he’ll need time to settle in but we could be talking about someone who may well be the answer to our long-term right-wing issues.
I would imagine United will manage him very similar to how they’ve dealt with Facundo Pellistri, though. Let him settle in without too much pressure and when he’s ready, drip-feed him first-team minutes rather than throwing Amad Diallo straight into the fire.
As you’d imagine, United fans were massively impressed with the 18-year-old starlet’s Champions League debut for Atalanta last night.
